Bambi Meets Godzilla: #38 on the Record of The 50 Biggest Cartoons of All Time (1969)
In 1994, Jerry Beck edited the e book, The 50 Niceest Automobiletoons: As Chooseed by 1,000 Animation Professionalfessionals, which challenged specialists to create a ranking of the most effective quick, cel animated automobiletoons ever made. To nobody’s surprise, the specialists selected 10 Warner Bros. animations crafted by Chuck Jones. In addition they gave a nod to Fleischer Studios’ original Tremendousman automobiletoon, Disney’s first animation with Mickey Mouse (1928’s “Steamboat Willie”), and the Donald Duck-starring WWII professionalpaganda movie,“Der Fuehrer’s Face.”
Sure, the massive animation studios (Warner Bros., Disney, and so forth.) dominate the checklist. However just a few “indies” manage to squeak in there. Take for examinationple Winsor McCay’s seminal 1914 creation “Gertie the Dinosaur.” Or Bambi Meets Godzilla. A student movie created by Marv Newland in 1969, Bambi Meets Godzilla (above) runs solely 90 seconds. Of which, 48 seconds are devoted to the opening credits, and 27 seconds to the closing credits, leaving solely 12 seconds of “motion,” which is mostly nonethelessness. The timing is the enjoyableny.
